Struggling to Get People to Open Your Emails?

Hey, friend! Have you ever avoided sending any emails because you thought they wouldn’t be good enough? Do you dread sitting down and writing an email, because you don’t know what to say?

 

Trust me, you’re not alone. I used to think that I would have to hire a professional copywriter for my emails and sales pages. But I figured out how to create an authentic connection with my people.

 

From someone who’s dyslexic and has ADHD, I never imagined I’d love writing emails. But here I am, talking about my email strategies with you. I have had a 40-60% open rate (average is 20% open rate), since day one of starting my email marketing journey.

 

Today I want you to nail these 4 strategies in your email marketing, and you will be on the road to having higher than average email open rates.

Be You and Be Authentic

First thing’s first. Throw out the idea that your emails need to be flawless. They just need to be you. Seriously, people crave authenticity. They want to connect with a real person—not some overly polished, cookie-cutter version of you. So, let your personality shine through in your emails.

 

For instance, I use tools like ChatGPT to brainstorm, but even after that, my email drafts have to sound unmistakably like Robbin. My biz besties often exclaim, “Robbin, even with AI, your emails still sound just like you!” And that’s exactly what we’re going for… authenticity that resonates.

Consistency in Topics and Timing

You’re nailing that authenticity, but how often should you be sending emails? Consistency is important… both in your topics and your timing. If you’re sporadic with your emails, your audience won’t know when to expect them, and they’re less likely to open them.

 

Pick a schedule that you can commit to… whether it’s once a week, bi-weekly, or monthly. And make sure your topics are aligned with what your audience expects. Throwing in random, off-topic emails will just confuse them, and they’ll eventually tune out.

Ensure Professional Deliverability

Let’s talk a bit about the technical side. To make sure your emails actually reach your audience, use a domain email rather than a free service like Gmail. Trust me, this makes a world of difference. Emails sent from a domain email (like hello@yourbusiness.com) are much more likely to land in someone’s inbox rather than their spam folder. Plus, it boosts your credibility and shows you’re serious about your business.

 

And here’s a little bonus tip: You don’t even need a full website to set up a domain email. You can have a professional email address ready to go before your site is live.

Provide Value and Tell Stories

Now that your emails are authentic, consistent, and professionally delivered, what should they contain? Value. High-quality, useful content that your readers can’t wait to open.

 

You can repurpose your value from social media posts, your podcast, and other areas you share resources for your client. 

 

I love to take it up a notch by pairing valuable content with storytelling. Stories are powerful; they’re relatable and memorable. Whether it’s a personal story, a client success story, or a lesson learned, add a narrative to draw your readers in.

Your goal is to create a virtual coffee date with your reader. Just like you wouldn’t hesitate to meet a friend for coffee, you want your readers to eagerly open your emails. Be real, be consistent, ensure deliverability, provide value, and tell engaging stories.
