Escape the 'I Shoulda Trap'!
Have you ever caught yourself saying, “I should do that,” only to realize months or even years have passed and you still haven’t taken action? I know the feeling all too well. Even as a go-getter, I’ve found myself stuck in the cycle of “I should do this,” or “I’ll do that one day.” But let me tell you, I’ve recently made some real progress, and I want to share my journey with you.
So, here’s the scoop. I had this client, Michelle, who was in a similar situation. She had been saying, “I’m gonna do this one day,” for what felt like forever. She knew what she wanted to do but just couldn’t seem to get started. Sound familiar? That’s where I come in as her coach, providing the accountability and support she needed to turn her “I should” into “I’m doing.”
Funny thing is, during one of our coaching sessions, Michelle turned the tables on me and challenged me to stop procrastinating on something I’d been putting off: creating my own blog. I’ll admit, I’d been holding back, telling myself I wasn’t ready. But when Michelle called me out, I realized it was time to take my own advice. So, I set a clear goal, made a schedule, and shared my plans with others for extra accountability.
And you know what? It worked! I pushed past those “I shoulds” and “one days” and actually got it done. Now, my blog is up and running, and I’ve never felt better about taking action.
I also have to tell you about my friend who finally decided to pursue her dream of becoming a virtual assistant (VA). She had been talking about it for ages but never made the leap. That all changed when she voiced her goal, and an unexpected opportunity to move forward presented itself. It just shows that once we commit and start talking about our plans, things start falling into place.
If you’re feeling stuck in the cycle of “I should,” “I will,” or “I’m going to,” I want to share a few tips that helped me and my clients break free:
1. Set a clear and achievable goal. Figure out exactly what you want to accomplish and break it down into smaller steps.
2. Create a schedule or timeline. Setting deadlines can help you stay on track and make real progress.
3. Share your plans with someone for accountability. Whether it’s a friend, coach, or supportive community, having others cheer you on makes a world of difference.
And speaking of supportive communities, come join us over in my Online Courses Made Easy Facebook group. Share your goals, seek feedback, and let’s help each other stay accountable.

Remember, it’s time to stop talking about what we’re going to do and actually start doing it. Let’s take that first step together.
